Grey Gardens at the Ensemble Theatre

The New York Times described Grey Gardens as “an experience no passionate theatregoer should miss.” Luckily for Cincinnati, the Tony Award winning Grey Gardens is coming to the Ensemble Theatre during the month of September. Showing from 9/10 – 9/28, the musical will have 20 performances at the ETC. You can purchase tickets for as little as $35 for adults and $16 for children under the age of 12.

Due to extreme popularity a couple of dates have already been added. So be sure to get your tickets early for the performance of your choice. Shows at the Ensemble typically start around 7:30pm or 8pm. It makes for a great evening if you grab dinner/drinks at Jean Robert’s Lavomatic that is literally just steps away from the entrance to the theatre.

You can purchase tickets online, by telephone (513-421-3555), or by visiting the box office at 1127 Vine Street (Google Map) in the heart of the Gateway Quarter.

This Weekend: Brew HA-HA

This weekend promises to be filled with plenty of great things to do throughout the city. The Cincinnati USA Brew Ha-Ha will be taking place Friday and Saturday night at Sawyer Point from 5pm to midnight on Friday and 4pm to midnight Saturday night. Brew Ha-Ha is a one-of-a-kind event that brings together great comedic acts and a wide variety of beers to sample.

There will be 50 comedians including Pauley Shore, Adam Hunter and Pat Goodwin, and over 70 beers to sample and taste. One of the best parts about this event is that portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the Over-the-Rhine Foundation.

Support the Know

There is a fun opportunity coming up that will help a local non-profit arts organization. Kona Bistro, in Oakley, will be hosting the Know Theatre of Cincinnati on August 27th as part of a weekly fundraiser (see Community Nights) that starts at 6pm and lasts until 9pm.

The Know Theatre of Cincinnati describes itself as, “Just left of off Broadway” in terms of their productions. The theatre is also one of three theatres (Ensemble Theatre & New Stage Collective) along a 3-block stretch in Over-the-Rhine. A stretch of theatres that I consider to be Cincinnati’s off Broadway district.

The Know needs support though, and what better way than by going to the very cool Kona Bistro (GoogleMap) and enjoying some great food, drinks, and conversation? There will also be a raffle where you could win free tickets, subscriptions, and more for the Know Theatre’s 2008-2009 season.

Be a part of a film shoot on Fountain Square

Still waiting on your 5 minutes of fame? Wait no longer…you’ve got a great opportunity to be a part of a film shoot Wednesday (7/30) on Fountain Square. Foxalpha Films/J8DED Pictures will be shooting a “very long scene on the Square.”

3CDC reports that this is going to be a part of a pilot for a nation-wide television program. The shoot will be taking place from 6pm-11pm* on Fountain Square, but it is encouraged that you get there at 5pm to sign in if you would like to be a part of the filming. 3CDC also reports that the Cincinnati Police, businesses around the Square, and the local media will all be participating.

Know Theatre – What’s the Point?!

What’s the Point?! is soon to be at the Know Theatre of Cincinnati. The production originally opened in 2007 in New York City at The Reprise Room and will return there in September. In the mean time, the Know Theatre of Cincinnati will bring the cabaret musical to another city for the first time ever this Summer.

The musical is based on the popular 1950s and 1960s revue styles, which were known for commenting on popular trends and on society in general. Additionally this particular production has been described as “fast-paced” with each member, of the three-person cast, playing a variety of characters.

The Cincinnati premier will take place on Friday, July 18th and will run through Tuesday, August 12th. Shows on Fridays and Saturdays start at 9:30pm, while shows on Mondays and Tuesdays start at 7:30pm.
