Good times in the 513
On Saturday, June 20 thousands of people converged onto Over-the-Rhine to participate in the GoOTR 5k and enjoy the festivities at the first annual OTR Summer Gateway Celebration afterwards.
I can honestly say that the 5k was exhausting in that heat. I averaged an 11 minute mile which is not much better than a brisk walk, but I raised money for the Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce and got to hang out with lots of fun people in OTR all day.

The Summer Celebration was a great addition this year as in past years people seemed to hang around looking for something to do after the 5k. In addition to the awards ceremony from Rookwood Pottery and drinks from Christian Moerlein, this year had tons of local vendors selling food, crafts and other items.
On the other side of Vine Street some neighborhood children set up a lemonade stand to take advantage of the perfect business opportunity. There was even a stage for music and dance performances that kept the crowd entertained at 12th & Vine all day long.
A couple of drinks, a mett and a wood-fired pizza later I was ready to head south towards Fountain Square to check out the Civil Rights Game Youth Summit festivities that were ongoing.

There were lots of out-of-towners and lots of people enjoying the interactive areas for the kids (pitching area, batting cage, etc). Earlier some Reds players spoke to the youth baseball players and fans at Fountain Square.
The day was truly special and will hopefully be just as good, if not better next year with the second annual OTR Summer Gateway Celebration and the second consecutive year of the Civil Rights Game being held in Cincinnati.
The fifth annual Roeblingfest takes place this weekend on Sunday, June 14th from 11am to 4pm. The festival is a “celebration of art, architecture history and engineering.”
Festival-goers can take part in tours of the Roebling Suspension Bridge, murals, statues and also tour the Daniel Beard House. Tickets cost $2 per person per tour, or $5 per family per tour. There will also be harbour tours by BB Riverboats that will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.
The festival will also have a variety of entertainment, food and other activities to enjoy. No reservations are required. For additional information call (513) 751-3526.
The College Hill neighborhood business district (NBD) is one of my newest favorite NBDs in Cincinnati. It’s not often that I’m up that way, but I think I’ll be heading there more often after my past few experiences that have left me wanting more out of that neighborhood.
College Hill Coffee Co. is located at the northern end of the business district and is a third place and anchor for the neighborhood. I spent last Wednesday there and it didn’t seem like that long until I looked down at my watch and realized I had spent over three hours there.
They have some great coffee, good food offerings, table service, a small retail area and a comfortable environment to hang out that features free wi-fi. Here are a few pictures I grabbed of the interior while I was there.

SouthShore oozes luxury
The SouthShore condominium tower dominates the Newport riverfront with its Miami-esque design that features floor to ceiling windows and luxury amenities that can be found nowhere else. I was able to tour the building over the weekend and grab some pictures. So far about 65% of the building’s residential space has been sold with condos ranging from $300,000 to $3,000,000.
The tower is roughly 240′ tall with 17 floors of living space and 4 floors of parking. The amenities include a fitness center, a rooftop amenity deck that includes a pool, putting green, walking trail, gardens, sundeck and clubhouse. SouthShore was also recently approved for a 100-slip marina that will primarily serve residents but also be available for rent to the public.
